Sharon “Sherri” Dean Skaff, 86, of Hawthorne, California passed way peacefully in her sleep at home on January 30, 2026.
Sherri was born in Inglewood, California on September 3, 1939 to William A. Skaff and Nadine "Scooter" Spencer Skaff. She was blessed when her sister Jenipher was born 2 years later. Sherri grew up in a large and loving Lebanese American family in the Hawthorne & Inglewood area.
After graduating from Morningside High School in Inglewood in 1957, Sherri followed her dream of becoming a nurse graduating from Los Angeles County General Hospital School of Nursing in 1962. She transitioned from bedside nursing to Assistant Nursing Director at Los Angeles County USC Medical Center Women’s Hospital for the next 45 years. She retired from full-time in 2000, but continued to work as relied Director for an additional 5 years.
In her retirement, Sherri joined the Kiwanis of Hawthorne in 2000 serving as secretary from 2002 to 2008. She was a lifelong member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral in downtown Los Angeles.
Sherri dearly loved to travel. In 1963, she and her mother spent the greater part of a year traveling around the world. She would continue her passion for travel the rest of her life and passed her love of travel onto her family. One of her favorite adventures to the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador in 2014 was shared with her cousin, niece and a lifelong friend. Sherri deeply cherished her trip to Japan & Hong Kong in 2015 with her sister Jenipher. Her last big adventure was to Costa Rica in 2018 where she Zip-lined with her sister, brother in-law and niece.
Sherri developed a great love of the Hawaiian Islands when she first visited in her teen years staying with dear family friends in their island-style home. She would continue to visit the islands throughout her life. Kailua Beach on Oahu was her absolute favorite place in the world!
Sherri always made sure to document through photography to preserve treasured memories of travel adventures and events shared with her family and friends. Her other hobbies included theater and collectables.
Sherri’s enjoyment of her life-long passions was interrupted in 2018 when she was involved in a severe automobile accident forever altering the course of her life. After 6 months of hospitalization and rehabilitation, she was able to return to her home where she was able to remain for the rest of her life. Although it was no longer possible for her to travel abroad, she enjoyed family outings, attending musicals at the Pantages Theater and entertaining in her home until the end of her life. Her survival and recovery is a testament to her strength, fortitude and passionate love of life.
Sherri was the “Rock of Gibraltar” to her family, serving as the family’s matriarch in her later years. She was blessed with a large extended family of many cousins, nieces and nephews. Sherri was a Godmother to many nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind a network of dear friends from her nursing career and Kiwanis. Many of her family owe their success in life to her unwavering encouragement and support.
Above all else, Sherri’s family was her most treasured possession. She is survived by her sister Jenipher Skaff Bach, brother in-law Stephen Bach, nieces Stephanie Jones and Lisa Bach-Bohler (Leo), great-nephews Davin Jones and Brian Jones and great-great-nephew Keegan Jones.
She was proceeded in death by her father William A. Skaff in 1960, her mother Nadine “Scooter” Spencer Skaff in 2013.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donating to St. Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, Kiwanis of Hawthorne or the charity of their choose.
