In Loving Memory of James Karlock September 17, 1954 – September 6, 2025
James Karlock, a devoted husband, respected colleague, and passionate sports enthusiast, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, just days before his 71st birthday. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, James lived a life full of purpose, joy, and unwavering faith.
James attended Hawthorne High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in college. From an early age, he dreamed of becoming a sports commentator—fueled by a deep love for the game. That dream led him to the NBA, where he worked proudly at the commentator's table and as a timekeeper for basketball games at the Staples Center. For those who tuned into the games, his voice and presence may have been familiar—he was a part of the sport’s heartbeat for many years.
After meeting the love of his life, Irma, James began a new chapter of service, joining the Hermosa Beach Police Department, where he worked with integrity and dedication for 25 years. He retired in October 2024, embracing the next stage of life with joy and his signature line:“Every day’s Saturday, baby!”
Though James and Irma had no children, their home was filled with love and companionship, shared with their beloved Pomeranian, Peachy. Whether it was a quiet morning walk or an evening spent watching games, life was rich and full.
A man of strong faith, James was a devout Catholic, as is his wife Irma. His belief in God was a guiding light throughout his life and continues to bring comfort to those who loved him.
